Our story in action

Care that began in the NICU—and came home to Cebu.

5,364diapers donated to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Founded by Cebuano nurses Lan Cabatingan and his wife, Lean & Learn Health Foundation grew from their family’s own three-month NICU experience. That personal journey became a commitment to practical, hospital-based support for premature and critically ill newborns and the families who care for them.

The foundation plans to continue this work through donations, local partnerships, and volunteer engagement with healthcare communities in Cebu.

Leandro’s Corner

From 2.2 pounds to thriving.

29 weeks + 5 days2.2 pounds88 days in the NICU

Leandro entered the world on April 16, 2024, at just 29 weeks and five days, weighing only 2.2 pounds.

During his 88 days in the NICU, he faced episodes of bradycardia and tachycardia, jaundice requiring phototherapy, anemia that required a blood transfusion, and breathing difficulties. Through every challenge, Leandro continued to fight.

He never fought alone. His mom, Rosie, stayed by his side in the NICU from 11 a.m. until midnight. His dad, Lan, joined them after work each day and remained from 5 p.m. until midnight. For 88 days, their lives revolved around the NICU—watching, waiting, learning, praying, and celebrating every small sign of progress.

Coming home was an extraordinary milestone, but it was not the end of Leandro’s medical journey. He later underwent an inguinal hernia repair and procedures to release a tongue-tie and lip-tie. He also experienced reflux, constipation, frequent vomiting, feeding difficulties, and challenges gaining weight. His family carefully tried different formulas, always watching to make sure he could tolerate his feedings and continue growing.

Today, Leandro is thriving.

His joyful smile and adventurous spirit remind us how far he has come. His journey is the heart behind Lean & Learn Health Foundation—and the reason we believe every NICU family deserves compassionate support, practical health education, and hope for the road ahead.
